Read full postDPA microphones - an interview with Ken Kimura
Episode 3 from our 2010 season of Factory Sound TV, and the theme of interviews continues. This time it's with Ken Kimura from DPA microphones. He gives us the lowdown on some of the newer microphones coming out of the Danish microphone company that is so well respected for their natural sounding microphones - and he gives us the scoop on what is just about to come out. Plus there's a bit of interesting info about the Space Shuttle... if you're into that sort of thing. Check out DPA microphones on our website here.
And by the way, please let us know if there is a subject you'd like to see/hear more about on Fatory Sound TV. We are very lucky to have a great selection of international visitors come and see us each year, so we'll try to get interesting info out of them for you - but if there is something above and beyond that you'd like to watch, please put it out there and we'll do our best to bring it to a computer monitor near you!

Behringer, bulletproof mixer video
Ok, we like this one. Even if it wasn't our idea, we hope that Uli Behringer was at least a little inspired by Factory Sound TV. In case you haven't seen it yet, the video clip below is a ripper ad for the new range of Behringer mixers, which are actually packed with even more features than the last Xenyx series. The killer new feature is One Knob Compression for each of the mono microphone channels, without overlooking the bi-directional USB port now built into the mixers.
When you're ready, check the new range here. Otherwise sit back and check the video!

FireStudio Mobile storms into town
We've been waiting a while, but they're finally here - our Presonus replacement to the much loved (and hard working) Firebox is called FireStudio Mobile, and it's now in stock. In the usual Factory Sound way, we've built a nice big stack - (a) because we ran out of lego bricks to play with, and (ii) because we know they're going to be in demand.
Click the product link above to see more about it, or just come in. The Recommended Retail Price is $529, but we're doing introductory specials... it's worth your while, you know how we work.

Yes Factoryites - our now famous Factory Sound Footy Tipping competition is on again. It's the question we've heard more than any others lately: Not "How much are 58's going for?", not "What happened to the Tower of Gaffer", not "When is the rain going to stop", but "When is Footy Tipping starting"
Well, the answer is "right now" and this year promises to be our biggest year yet. At the end of 22 rounds, our winner will receive a $2010 Factory Sound voucher, the tipper who finishes in 75th place will receive a Rode NT1-A microphone package, and our last placed tipper will get the traditional prize - Shure SM57. Like our $2007, $2008 and the award-winning $2009 seasons, we'll come up with some not-to-be-sneezed-at weekly prizes too.
Please remember that this competition is only open to current Factory Sound customers, Factory Sound suppliers and Factory Sound staff (who are sadly ineligible for the end-of-year prizes). If you're ready to rip straight in, head on over to the 'footy' tab - you'll see it up there on the right hand side. Best of luck for Season $2010, and should you need any further inspiration, here's our preview clip for this year!
Stupidly cheap personal headphone deal - Sennheiser
Now we don't really know how this has happened, but we've ended up with a bit over 100 pair of these ripper Sennheiser personal headphones - CX500B. Now, their baby brothers (CX300B) were legendary performers and well loved for both their sound and legendary longevity.
So.. these CX500B in-ear 'phones spec up even better, and although they have an already very fair Recommended Retail Price of $129.95, we've gone the full slash and you can grab these for just $59 per pair, while we've got stock. It's not a mis-print, they're half price. No, you can't buy more than 2 sets at a time...
For those who need the specs, check out this page on Sennheiser's website. Otherwise just come in and grab a serious bargain!
Labour Day in Victoria
To help with our annual celebration of 8 hours work, 8 hours recreation and 8 hours of rest, we'll be closed Monday 8th March for Labour Day.
For those who regularly perform, mix, lug, promote or support the Australian music scene, we already know that the 8-8-8 split is probably quite flawed, in fact it's probably closer to 12 hours work, 7 hours travelling / waiting around and then a glorious 5 hours rest. The fact that our work is our hobby, and is usually carried out with friends (or at least kindred spirits), means that 5 hours sleep and 19 hours fun is great compensation for complete detatchment from the 'reality' of 8+8+8.
What are you up to for our Labour Day long weekend? There's plenty on in and around town. Even if none of us really know what Moomba means! Image above via Port Fairy Folk Festival website - another Labour Day long weekend institution.
